Introducing Managing Safely
What health and safety means for managers. The moral, legal and financial case for managing safely. Manager and employer responsibilities under HASWA 1974.
Assessing Risks
Understanding the difference between hazards and risks. Risk assessment principles and methodology. Practical risk assessment exercises using real workplace scenarios.
Controlling Risks
The hierarchy of control. Selecting sensible and proportionate control measures. Applying controls effectively in your specific working environment.
Understanding Responsibilities
Manager, employer and employee responsibilities. Accountability, competence and simple H&S management systems. What "reasonably practicable" means in practice.
Understanding Hazards
Common workplace hazards — slips, trips, manual handling, machinery, substances, vehicles and fire. Sector-specific examples relevant to your team's environment.
Investigating Incidents
Why accidents happen. Near misses and learning from them. Simple investigation techniques to uncover root causes and prevent future incidents.
Measuring Performance

How Delegates are Assessed
Two-Part Assessment
30 questions completed on the final day of the course. Pass mark is 60% (18/30). Assesses understanding of all 7 modules.
Completed after the course, based on a real workplace situation. Demonstrates practical application of learning in the delegate's own environment.
Successful delegates receive the globally recognised IOSH Managing Safely® Certificate, issued directly by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health. Valid for life.
